G’day, learners!!! Pegue seu guarda-chuvas e um cobertor quentinho porque hoje vamos falar sobre o clima e, guess what, é winter aqui na New Zealand!!! Pra quem ainda não foi no Google Maps verificar, estamos no hemisfério sul também e as estações do ano são as mesmas aí do Brazil.
Nas últimas semanas teve muito vento, chuva e neve e o assunto é um prato cheio para o noticiário local e vamos usar um vídeo que foi ao ar no dia 12 de Junho de 2022. Shall we?
Task #1 – Before watching the video, match the words on the left with their collocations on the right. Some words can be used more than once:
| flood, heavy, over, sand, snow, torrential, weather, wild, wintery | bags, chain, dump, fall, flow, machinery, rain, warning, water, weather |
Example: weather warning
Task #2 – Watch the video and answer the following questions:
- What are the firemen doing with the pumps?
- What happened to properties north of Wellington?
- What is the issue with the sandbags according to one of the locals?
- What does it mean when the reporter said “snow chain is a must“?
- Who is making the most of the biggest snow dump? What are they doing?
Task #3 – Now, let’s use the context and vocabulary to discuss the following questions:
- Are there any weather-related problems in your hometown or country? If so, what is “a must” or a “must-do” in those situations?
- When summer comes, what do you do to make the most of it?
